Little Shelford Village weekend 2025 programme


Friday 12 to Sunday 14 September

 

The Little Shelford Entertainments Committee (LSEC) has been working hard to bring you a weekend of events for all ages including a Friday night party at the Side Quest Pub, a traditional Village Fete with multiple activities for children and families on the Wale Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon and a restful set of Sunday activities. Put the dates in your diary. With this advance notice, children and adults can start planning “Character from the World of Games” scarecrow and your Village Show entries now. Everyone is welcome and more details of the events and Village Show can be found below. All Little Shelford Homes will receive a detailed Village Weekend Brochure in early July. Look out for it.

Friday 12th September 6pm onwards: The Side Quest Party

Join us for food and live music from “Not My Circus”. Big Roast and Real Ales supplied by the Side Quest Chefs. Vegetarian Options available. FREE ENTRY at The Side Quest Pub, High Street, Little Shelford 

Saturday 13th September from 1pm:  Traditional Family Fun Village Fete and Show at the Wale Recreation Ground

Join us for free from 1pm to 5pm for family fun, including traditional stalls, free bouncy castle assault course for small kids, dog show (feel free to enter your dog on the day!), maypole dancing, “Animal Experience” petting zoo, professional face painting, kids' games competition, Inter-street family games and tug-of-war, Crown Green Bowling Experience, Try the Cricket club Bowling machine, ERGO Rowing Machine Challenge and Village show and Scarecrow display. BBQ, vegetarian option, Ice Cream stand and licenced bar. Many other attractions for young and old.

Scarecrow Theme for 2025: “Characters from the World of Games” - Feel free to interpret this loosely & Bring Your Scarecrow to the Wale before 1pm for display and judging.

Sunday 14th September: All Saints Harvest Celebration 11am on the Wale

All ages welcome. There will be songs and celebration for Harvest in the Marquee on the Wale Recreation Ground. Non-perishable gifts will be collected for Jimmy’s night shelter. Join us after the service for tea, coffee, cake and conversation. Stay for....

Village History Walk 12.30

90-minute walk departing the Marquee on the Wale and including notable Houses and Residents, The Hall and Manor House History, the Village Pump, All Saints Church, its' Brasses, Bier, Saxon Gravestones and the “Wailing Wall”. Led by local-residents.

Bring your picnic, family and friends to a relaxed afternoon utilizing the Marquee for Shelter.

 

Please come along and support LSEC in bringing the villagers of Little Shelford and their friends and families together for fun & friendship.

The Village Show

We are very excited to be holding another Fun Village Show as part of the weekend. All entries are free. Entry forms complete with entry instructions are available from the Memorial Hall notice board, the village web site ( www.littleshelford.online) or from christajostock@hotmail.com

You can enter one item per category but as many categories as you would like. Entry deadline Thursday 11th September 5pm. Exhibits will be on show at the Fun Afternoon from 1pm and winners will be announced at 4pm. 

Just for Kids categories (up to 12 years of age) 

1.4 small baked items with chocolate on a plate
2. Mini Garden on a dinner plate (example photo)
3. Funniest vegetable animal: Make an animal out of carrots, potatoes or any vegetable you like
4. Posy of flowers (max 20cm height)
5. Animal photo: take a photo of your pet. Animal in a field or wildlife
6. Holiday poem on A4 sheet with decorated border and illustrations; Write some lines about your holidays and make the page look pretty with drawings and decorations

The Little Shelford Fun Weekend on the Wales Rec theme this year is Hats and all entries are free.

 

Please fill in the entry form included below.

 

Exhibits must be brought to the marquee on Little Shelford Rec on Saturday the 16th of September between 9.30am and 10.30am, no items can be accepted after 10.30am as judging will have commenced. Judging will take place from 10.30am to 1pm.

 

Exhibits and results will be on show to the public from 1pm, when the fun weekend opens, until 4.30pm

 

Winners of each category will be announced at 4.30pm at the Marquee and then exhibits can be taken home.

 

Kids Recipe for Afghan Hat biscuits, scale as required.

 

200 grams Butter - softened or melted.

1/2 Cup White Sugar, 105 grams

1 1/4 Cups Plain White Flour, 163 grams

1/4 Cup Cocoa, 22 grams

1 teaspoon Vanilla, 5 mls

2 Cups Cornflakes - 60g (or you can use two weetbix)

ICING

1 1/2 Cups Icing Sugar, 200 grams

1 heaped Tablespoon Cocoa, 6 grams

1 teaspoon vanilla, 5mls

1 teaspoon melted butter, 5mls

1-2 TBSP Water 15-30 mls

18 Walnut Halves

  • Preheat oven to 180C (350F)

  • Prepare an oven tray by greasing

  • Cream Butter & Sugar for 4-5 minutes until creamy

  • Add flour, cocoa & vanilla and mix well.

  • Add cornflakes and lightly combine.

  • Take tablespoon sized amounts and roll into balls spread evenly on the tray.

  • Lightly flatten with your fingers.

  • Bake for 12 minutes - they will be soft when they come out of the oven.

  • Then cool completely before icing and popping your walnut on top.

  7. Pork Pie hat – show us your sausage rolls.

  8.  The Tam O’Shanter award for fruit Jam

  9.  Flower decorated hat.
