Wale Recreation Ground
The Wale Recreation Ground on Whittlesford Road includes a children’s play area and riverside walk.
The riverside walk is accessed by a footpath, suitable for both able bodied and disabled, down to and along the River Cam and back to the recreation ground. This footpath passes over a low-level wooden boardwalk over the end of the historic ice pond and proceeds down to a wooden viewpoint by the river. A hedge and wetland plants have been planted.
The path was created by the Little Shelford Wildlife Group with the help of funds from Awards for All, South Cambs District Council, Shell Better Britain and the Environment Agency.
The recreation ground is home to the Little Shelford Bowls Club. Janet Healey from the club can be contacted on 01223 872385. The club meets between May and September. Club afternoons are on Saturdays at 2.30pm.
The Little Shelford Cricket Club plays on the recreation ground. They can be contacted via email: chrisschofield@littleshelfordcc.com.
Their clubhouse is the former village hall building. The Little Shelford Feast is held on the recreation ground, usually in the first week-end in September.
The recreation ground is owned and maintained by Little Shelford Parish Council.
